The UPLIFT Network


With the aim of reaching out to and empowering more people from poor communities, UPLIFT Philippines, Inc. established the UPLIFT Network in 1999 to assist existing Filipino organizations develop microfinance projects. The concept was to enable these organizations adopt the principles of UPLIFT and share its tools and methodologies.

Since its inception, the Network has evolved into a strong, well-structured entity with members of diverse principles from various parts of the Philippines. These members who share the same principles are bonded by the common goal of empowering the poor.

At present, UPLIFT has a total of seven Network members.

The Kapisanang Pangkaunlaran ng Kababaihang Potrero (KPKP) was started by a group of women leaders in the different zones of Potrero in 1994 to cater to the needs of poor women in Malabon. . Registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission as a NGO, it provided educational and technological know-how on livelihood projects to its members.
KPKP joined the TLRC (Technology Resource Center) in its micro lending program called Asahan (Alalay sa Hanapbuhay) in November 1977. It became the KPKP Mile (Micro Lending) after the Asahan program ended. KPKP Mile became the first UPLift Network member in January 1999 with Ms. Milagros Reyes as its Program manager.
KPKP Mile has two (2) branches: one in Potrero covering the areas of Potrero, Acacia and Marulas and the 2nd is Santolan.
It was awarded by TLRC as the Best Organization Nationwide in Micro Lending among the KAKAYANAN Partners in December 2000. To date, KPKP has assisted over 2000 beneficiaries.

Share A Child Movement was formed by Atty. Esperanza Velenzona in 1982 to educate children so they do not end up on the streets and prevent them from having conflicts with authorities. The group became a full pledge NGO in 1983 and Share A Child Movement, Inc. (SACMI) was born in 1983.
SACMI began its partnership with UPLift Network for their Livelihood Program in April 2000. It aimed to assist the parents to build their own source of livelihood so they can better support the needs of their children. Atty. Nina Valenzona, daughter of Atty. Valenzona, is now Executive Director of SACMI.
SACMI operates in three areas in Cebu City: Pahina/Sambag1, Alaska and Labangon.

The Business Skills Development Resource Center (BSRDC) at Paliparan, Dasmariñas, Cavite was set up in April 2001. This is De La Salle University System’s (DLSU) response to poverty alleviation by forging partnership and building capabilities in the partner communities of DLSU and the Federation of Lasallian Institutions under its Caucus on Poverty Reduction Program. A university-based foundation, BSRDC enable individuals, communities and organizations to access resources, gain skills and develop problem solving
capabilities through training and micro-finance assistance.

Bidlisiw Foundation was established in March 1989 as a social development NGO based in Cebu City to help improve the lives of the most disadvantaged children and families in urban poor communities. It was registered with the Securities & Exchange Commission in September 1989.
Bidlisiw partnered with Uplift Phils Inc. in 2000 to implement the Training and Entrepreneurial Development Program (TEDP) to increase the level of socio-economic situation and general well being of its partners. The TEDP offers both financial and non-financial services to its partners.
Bidlisiw operates four (4) branches: 1st is Sawang Calero which covers the areas of Duljo, Sawang Calero and Sabang,. 2nd is Mandaue, 3rd is Talisay and 4th is Mabolo.
Bidlisiw offers the following services:

TEDP (Training and Entrepreneurial Development Program), which is on its 6th year, implements the revised UPLift program with the following components: loans and savings for financial services, skills training (ST), Job Hunting Enhancement Training (JHET) to prepare the young adults for Access to Company Employment (ACE) and Capability Building services to improve business management skills of partners.
- The Financial Services component has given a total of 548 loans in 2005 totaling to P3, 587,100.00
- Non-Financial Services (NFS) now called ESWEO or Enhancing Self/Wage Employment opportunities, which provides 6 months practicum to qualified partners to put into actual operation skills learned during the ST. Bidlisiw provides the OJT kits and the raw materials.

Bidlisiw also implements the following projects:

The Jose L. Gonzaga farmers Foundation, Inc.(JLGFFI) was the brainchild of Assistio T. Gonzaga, one of the sons of Jose L. Gonzaga after whom the foundation was named. It was an offspring of his passion to help the poor, especially the farmers in his hometown, Danao, Bohol. He also inspired his siblings, all successful professionals, most of whom are US-based, to put up a foundation to perpetuate the memory and legacy of their farmer-father. The foundation is a good means through which the family can share with the community the many blessings that the good Lord has showered upon its members. Through this foundation, farmers may be educated and empowered that they may be able to provide a better life for their children thereby breaking the vicious cycle of poverty that is prevalent in the country.

Following the history and tradition of the Gonzagas in providing help and assistance to their underprivileged neighbors in Danao, Bohol, the Jose L. Gonzaga Farmer’s Foundation was established in April 2002 as an NGO with all the family members of the late Jose L. Gonzaga, including his wife and children as incorporators.
JLGFFI partnered with Uplift Phils Inc. to realize its aim to provide assistance to the underprivileged through an affordable funding program that benefits not only the farmers but also the small fish and vegetable vendors in Tagbilaran City.
